Odds are, if you’re reading this, you or someone you know is expecting a baby.

Congratulations! This can be an exciting or scary time. For a lot of moms-to-be, it’s a little bit of both. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by all the changes happening to your body—and all the changes happening around you as you prepare for your baby. People around you may offer their advice, their opinions, or even their childbirth horror stories (yikes!). It’s a lot to weed through, and it can be a challenge to figure out which parts to take to heart and which parts to ignore. (Although we definitely recommend ignoring the horror stories!) The good news is, there are a lot of prenatal classes and programs available to offer support and answer the questions you may have about your growing baby and your pregnancy journey.

So, onto the big question: where does the Care Clinic come into this?

Well, if you’re looking for pregnancy support or free prenatal classes, you’re in the right place. Our Earn While You Learn program is completely free and gives you access to all the prenatal classes we have to offer, along with a personal mentor who will help you curate your learning experience. The format is simple: You schedule an appointment time with one of our volunteer mentors, watch a video lesson or two (or three!), and discuss the lesson with your mentor and go over any questions you have with them. You can do the classes in person at the clinic, or online from the comfort of your own home. All prenatal lessons are pre-recorded, evidence-based videos and come with worksheets and homework to help really lock in what you’ve learned.

Some information on the different prenatal classes we have available:

“Your ____ Trimester”: This three part series has a lesson for each trimester of your pregnancy. You’ll learn about common bodily changes to expect, get some helpful tips, and get a walk-through of your baby’s prenatal development. Each lesson is about half an hour long.

“Expectations”: This is a four-part series which walks through the pregnancy journeys of three different couples. The series offers a great view into how different pregnancy and childbirth can be for each individual mom, and lets you see the expectations of each trimester through the lens of real-life examples. Each video is about twenty minutes long. “Simply Breastfeeding”: This five part series will teach you the ins and outs of breastfeeding your baby and help prepare you so that you know what to do once your baby is born. You’ll learn all about the benefits of breastfeeding, what makes breast milk so special, and some good techniques and positions to make breastfeeding as easy as possible. Each lesson is about twenty minutes to half an hour long.

“Labor 101”: This five part series covers all the basics of labor and childbirth. You’ll learn about the process itself and about the different birthing options available to you. You’ll also get to learn about ways you can help your body prepare for the big day and techniques to help you get through the process. Most videos are about twenty to thirty minutes long, with a final short video under ten minutes long to walk you through what happens right after you deliver your baby.

Lots and lots of individual lessons: In addition to the video series listed above, there are also a wide array of individual lessons for moms throughout each stage of pregnancy. We have lessons on prenatal care, how to eat for two, what to expect at your first ultrasound appointment, and how to start bonding with your unborn baby. There are also lessons that go more in-depth about prenatal development and what things are or aren’t safe for you while you’re pregnant. There’s even a video with helpful tips and hacks for how to handle the challenges and discomforts of your changing body! For moms who find out that they’re expecting more than one bundle of joy, there’s a lesson to help you prepare for that, too. Post-labor isn’t skipped over, either: there are classes to walk you through post-partum depression and how to care for yourself after childbirth. You name it, we probably have a lesson for it.

Having a baby is a big deal. Thankfully, you don’t need to go through this big change alone. Whether your pregnancy is planned or unplanned, whether you’re a mom in your teens or your forties, whether the father is in the picture or not, the Care Clinic doors are open to help you learn and to lend you support.
